While Hideout and the Wildfire Committee do not endorse any of these companies or products, we wanted to bring these newer technologies to your attention for further research.  The first two companies also perform hazard assessments.

What is HB 0048 and how will it impact our homes? Homeowners in Utah have been grappling with skyrocketing insurance rates, with premiums increasing by 20% over the past year. Some residents, particularly those in areas deemed wildfire-prone, have even been dropped by their insurance providers. A new bill, HB 48, sponsored by State Rep. Casey Snider, aims to address these issues by redefining wildfire risk zones with a state-specific mapping system. HB 48 offers a pathway to reduce wildfire exposure for homeowners genuinely at risk. The bill encourages residents to implement fire mitigation measures, such as clearing vegetation or using fire-resistant materials and rewards them with potential insurance credits.

Wildfire hardening of your home and property may result in discounts applied to your homeowner’s insurance.  The state is implementing a number of initiatives to better assess and mitigate wildfire risk.  Hideout residents that have followed the Wasatch Fire Marshal’s home hazard mitigation recommendations have actually seen their insurance premiums reduced.
